The Custom Fitting and Listening IRL Session
The Session
Every Audio Sommelier holds the BSA Certificate in Otoscopy and Impression Taking, awarded by the British Society of Audiology, and works to BSA recommended procedures. Impressions are taken by trained hands, to a published national standard.
Before you arrive
Bring your own phone, and the music you love most. Nothing else is required.
The examination
Your ears are examined before anything is done. This is carried out to British Society of Audiology recommended procedure, and it is the reason the impression comes out right.
The fitting
A custom silicone impression is taken of both outer ears. Ten minutes. It is not uncomfortable and it does not go deep.
The calibration
A short guided sequence. Part of it runs at a level that lets your outer ear learn what it is receiving. Because of how the interface works, it feels loud. After that, you set the volume wherever you want it.
What you will hear
Spatially accurate binaural recordings, made to show what the outer ear can resolve when it is actually engaged. Then film. Then your own music.
Your own music
A track you have played a thousand times, from your own phone, streamed and compressed exactly as you normally hear it.
The question
At the end, with the seals still in, you are asked one question.
Did I tell you the truth about this, or did I exaggerate?
You decide. If it did not do what I said it would do, you pay nothing.
If it did, you are welcome to commission a pair of your own.
